“One of the bills Oregon lawmakers will consider in their upcoming session calls for updating state land-use planning goals to address climate change and environmental justice.

House Bill 2488 would require the state to add new goals to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and include disadvantaged communities in land development decisions.

It would create an environmental justice advisory committee within the Oregon Department of Land Conservation and Development and require the state to create a map of the communities facing the highest environmental health risks.” Cassandra Profita

“Many people don’t really understand the legislation process or how easily they can be involved. Every year a session is held where the House & Senate both convene (get together) in order to present/hear bills before deciding if those bills should be tossed, amended, &/or smoothed out into a law.”

“Every citizen has the right by state and U.S. constitutions to speak on public issues and be heard by officials at every level of government.” Use your voice and advocate for legislation aimed at helping environmental issues. It can be as simple as sending an email addressed to you legislature showing your support.
